In modern industries, mold maintenance is regarded as an important role in order to keep the mold working well. Because when the mold works well, companies can maintain their production capacity. Specco2 would like to introduce a process of mold maintenance as well as products necessary for this process such as a dry ice blaster.

What is mold ?

In industry, mold is a piece of molded plastic or metal used to form the undisturbed shell of a product. Each pattern will be used for producing only one type of product. For example, a pattern can be used for shaping a plastic bottle or a pattern used for making an armchair.

Depending on the needs of businesses and clients, manufacturing units will be able to supply various kinds of molds.

It can be said that molds are critical to modern industry because they help businesses save time and create a large number of products that are the same in size, quality.

Why we need to maintain molds ?

While manufacturing, there will be no way to avoid the situation where molds will be degraded severely. This will lead directly to the enterprise’s production efficiency, and cause damage to the enterprise itself and waste of resources. In the most dangerous situation, the enterprise may lose big contracts, which will affect the revenue of the company. That is why it is necessary to maintain molds to maintain the company’s productivity.

Besides that, if you do not maintain your molds regularly, the quality of the product produced will also go down, which can have a strong influence on the reputation of the company.

In the process of maintenance, some positions that the worker should pay attention and do regular cleaning. For example, coordinate positioning on the mold, this position should be paid attention to and cleaned regularly.

Not only that, but the cooling system should be checked and cleaned by special cleaning agents in the industrial sector. Here, Specco2 recommends you to use dry ice to maintain your mold in a better way and avoid rusting.

What happen if we don’t maintain molds regularly ?

If mold is not cleaned and maintained regularly, the following problems may arise:

  • Swarf start to appear on the finished products
  • The product begins to show signs of damage, breakage, or leaks
  • Mold begins to appear on the surface of the product
  • The finished product appears dull and sticky
  • The color of molds are changed
  • The molds have sign of breaking off

The process of mold maintenance

Before maintain the mold, you should prepare and set up the dry ice blasting machine to make the process go smoothly. You can store dry ice in a safe way to keep them with the best quality. The way to clean the mould by CO2 is as follows:

  • Prepare the molds that you need to clean.
  • Make sure to wear full protective gear when performing the cleaning procedure (gloves, glasses, earplugs).
  • Make sure the Cold Jet dry ice machine is connected to the compressed air source and prepare the appropriate nozzle.
  • Next, depending on the parts such as legs, heads, inner tubes and spikes, adjust the dry ice blasting pressure accordingly with each type of mold.
  • Lastly, check all the surfaces for remaining dirt; whether there are any dirty spots left on the surface of your moulds or not.
  • After checking every part of the system, if there are no more mistakes then you can re-install it as before and can return it to production quickly.

Why we should maintain the mold with dry ice ?

Today, the use of dry ice blasting machines for maintenance mold is considered to be the most efficient option. In many countries in the world, dry ice blasting is used on a regular basis to clean machinery and industrial equipment or to clean factory floors. Thus, it is also an excellent tool for cleaning molds.

Some of the great advantages of using dry ice blasters are:

  • Improving the quality of products.
  • Nothing is left behind such as waste of any kind.
  • Lower the death time.
  • Save much time and costs for cleaning and maintenance.
  • For some certain kinds of equipments,it is not necessary to dismantle,it can still be cleaned from root to tip.
  • Do not wear off casting, cause damage of moulds.
  • Environmental friendly

Aero2 PCS 60

The Aero2 PCS 60 is designed to give users full control using Cold Jet’s patented Particle Control System (PCS), which allows them to customize dry ice firing parameters. Besides, the dry ice will also be cut into diamond-shaped particles to the exact size selected by the operator (from 0.3mm to 3mm).

Some advantages of the PCS 60 series:

  • Industry’s one of a kind performance. The blast stream is consistent and pulse-free.
  • Intuitive screen. On the 7″ color LCD display, you can easily view and control blasting parameters as well as machine settings. Even while working from a distance, full control delivers precision and flexibility.
  • Applications that can be programmed. The user can customize and save application formulations (burst pressure, particle size, and feed rate), ensuring the most efficient use of resources and avoiding operational errors.
  • Ergonomics. The machine is designed to optimize and combine materials, reducing weight and size with redesigned bellows for greater flexibility and durability.
  • Lower noise level and effective cleaning at lower blowing air pressure.
  • IoT capabilities for remote monitoring and diagnostics with the industry-first Cold Jet CONNECT.
